Bhangra Balraj

Please imagine a funky, very dance-able, drum beat whilst reading this post! Here is Bhangra Balraj, recently released digistamp from Dr.Digi and he is feeling the tunes!

And this is what he looks like in the shop

And here is a close up of my version coloured with Polychromo pencils on Kendal Manilla Buff Cardstock. I also used some posca paint pens and a white gel pen.

For my card blank, I printed out a recoloured version of Bloomin 70s paper. I highlight areas of the pattern in photoshop and recolour them to match my colouring. It’s very easy, and very flexible, so I feel I can sync my colours everytime.

I added some bling from the stash when I had assembled my card. I went with a “more is more” attitude. lol.

I learnt so much about Sikh Bhangra Dancing whilst researching to colour this pic! I also realise I only skimmed the surface of an amazing culture. I love a good research rabbit hole. Did you know these traditional slip on shoes are called Jutti? And the drumsticks are called Dhol sticks? Nope? nor me. “Balle Balle” means hooray or hurrah in Punjabi and “Shava Shava” is derived from the Sanskrit word “bhalla,” meaning “auspicious” or “favourable.” Also, if you search for Shava Shava on YouTube you should find the Bollywood song version, it’s awesome!!

Thanks for joining me today for a very colourful post. My partner says my colourings have all become very subdued of late and this is much better for being uber-colourful! Do you agree? 😀
